LEWISBURG — Albright Care Services held its 20th annual Golf Challenge at Bucknell University on Monday, June 4th. The event raised more than $126,500 in support of benevolent care. The golf challenge has raised more than $1.5 million since its inception in 1999.

Albright Care Services staff, board members, campus residents, United Methodist pastors and community members raised money to golf in the challenge, an event which has welcomed over 270 unique fundraiser golfers over the years. In addition, over 40 businesses and organizations sponsored the event at a variety of levels, contributing nearly half of the total raised.

Each fundraiser golfer made a significant contribution through personal fundraising in order to play in the event, with all monies raised used to support benevolent care at Normandie Ridge in York, RiverWoods in Lewisburg and Albright LIFE in Williamsport, Lancaster and Lebanon. Albright’s Benevolent Care Fund supports residents who have outlived their financial resources by providing for essential needs.

Following a full day of golf, a banquet was held in the clubhouse and top fundraisers were recognized. This year’s top fundraiser was the Reverend Doug Eberly, who raised $7,748. Eberly is the pastor of Pine Street United Methodist Church in Williamsport and a former Albright Care Services board member.

Other top fundraisers included Stephen Foust at $5,109. Foust has golfed in all 20 Golf Challenge events. Raising $2,914, Bob Kuhn has participated 12 years consecutively and is the oldest golfer in the challenge at age 95. The Reverend Keith Schmuck and the Reverend Myron Jones, retired clergy in the Susquehanna Conference, were also in the top five for fundraising.

This year, a special recognition plaque was presented to the organizer of the Golf Challenge, Sue Jamison, director of the annual fund at Albright. Jamison not only organizes the event each year, but has also personally raised more than $39,000 over 13 years of fundraising for it.

Albright would like to thank all of its Golf Challenge business and organization sponsors, fundraiser golfers and volunteers for helping to meet its mission of creating the highest quality of life by encouraging purposeful living through personalized, progressive and compassionate communities deeply rooted in serving others.
